Argentine Revolutionaries Solidarity With Turkey

The Workers’ United Front (FIT-U), the united front of the socialist revolutionary left in Argentina, organized a demonstration in front of the Turkish Embassy in Buenos Aires on Friday 4th to condemn the repression and arrests carried out by the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan government against the popular demonstrations against him that have been gripping the country for the last two weeks. The Turkish Embassy, as in other cases where we have taken action against the repression, was surrounded by barriers and the authorities ignored the FIT leaders’ request for an appointment to express their rejection of their moves towards democratic freedoms. At the same time, FIT-U’s national deputies submitted a bill to the National Assembly condemning Erdoğan’s repression.

In his speech, Solano touched on the large demonstration held in Istanbul on March 29, which was attended by 2 million people. Describing the process as a "real popular uprising against the government," he likened Erdoğan's repression to the oppressive plans of the Milei-Bullrich government. Solano also specifically emphasized Erdoğan's role as a "key player" of imperialism in Syria and his ties to imperialist governments, as well as the aspect of support for the oppressive Erdoğan regime in the world that stems from imperialist interests. He stated that Erdoğan, who has intervened in more than 150 municipalities since 2016, has opened the door to a new period of repression with the arrest and dismissal of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The FIT-U called for the release of all political prisoners. Stating that the main targets of the arrests were the student movement and the left, FIT conveyed messages of solidarity for the immediate release of the three SEP members who are under house arrest, and Levent Dölek (DİP) and Enes Karakaş (İDP) who are arrested.
