76 Killed by Fire Security Negligence in Turkey

A fire started from an unknown reason in the Grand Kartal Hotel at the peak of Köroğlu mountain range. The hotel, covered with wooden materials, is located on a mountain slope 40 kilometers from the city center and in the middle of a ski resort. As it turned out after the fire, there was no fire department in the area. Therefore, the first intervention at the hotel was only possible after 75 minutes. The fire started at night and was extinguished after 10 hours. The Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy stated that the hotel has been under check-ups twice in the last 5 years and that it was given the fire emergency sufficiency license by the authorities. The officials gave their condolences to the people on their social media accounts and President Erdoğan said that 22nd of October, Wednesday will be a national mourning day. So far, 9 people have been arrested. 

The terrible fire disaster occurred under the responsibility of the Minister of Tourism and Culture, who is also a tourism capitalist. The Erdoğan government is full of corrupt bribery and interest mechanisms from the bottom to the top, which frequently leaves Turkey face to face with such disasters. No one is expected to resign or any of the political responsible parties to be tried after the fire disaster. Moreover, as usual, the AKP regime tried to hide the extent of the incident by imposing a media ban after the incident.

SEP of Turkey echoed the people's grievances and anger by a party statement:

"Greed for profit, lawlessness, lack of control, impunity for their partizans. The same story! In this system where lawlessness is the rule, all the institutions of justice are at the disposal of AKP, and profiteering disregards human life: 76 people lost their lives in a hotel due to negligence. The system is crumbling in every area. Workers and women who die daily, those who lose their lives as a result of gangs or in traffic, those who die in earthquakes and other disasters. The list goes on. The profit system is taking lives away. We must throw this system in the trash, the only way for a humane system is the struggle for the socialist revolution.
