Internationalist Mobilization Against NATO and the Imperialist War

Resolution voted by the International Conference Against Imperialist War held in Naples (Italy)
The NATO Summit that will take place on 24–25 June in the Hague will be a spearhead for the further escalation of aggression against the peoples and the sharpening of imperialist competition. NATO has been the iron heel of the political–military alliance of Euro-Atlantic imperialism, from the war in Korea, up to the more recent ones in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine. NATO’s existence has been marked by imperialist wars, interventions, and coups that have shed the blood of the peoples.
The decisions of the last NATO Summits (expansion in Sweden and Finland, further military aid to the reactionary Zelensky government etc) added fuel to the fire of the imperialist competition, leading to a deepening of NATO’s political and military involvement in the war in Russia-Ukraine, which is an imperialist, unjust war on both sides. This Summit is taking place at a time of worsening world capitalist crisis and imperialist clashes and divisions, both economic and military. The war in Ukraine is intensifying, and all the exploiters are striving to obtain a greater share in the spoils of plunder.
All the parts are reorganizing their economy around the military-industrial complex. The NATO Summit seeks to further escalate the huge armament programmes that the people will be called to pay for. Global military spending reached $2,718 billion in 2024, up 9.4% in real terms from 2023 and the steepest annual increase since at least the end of the Cold War. All NATO members increased their military spending in 2024. Total military spending by NATO members amounted to $1,506 billion, or 55% of global military spending. Of the 32 NATO members, 18 spent at least 2.0% of GDP on military expenditure. The global rearmament frenzy, driven by the interests of capital, inevitably paves the way for widespread conflict.
NATO is also providing political and military cover for Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza. NATO is complicit in the genocide, sending weapons and supporting Israel in every way. The zionist state is the partner of the Euro-Atlantic imperialist bloc in the region, and NATO is seeing the genocide as an opportunity to expand its interests and positions in the Middle East.
The aggressive strategy of NATO is supported by the bourgeois and petty-bourgeois parties of its member-states. The task of opposing NATO is today becoming necessary in the direction of the struggle for the overthrow of capitalist barbarity.
We support the popular anti-imperialist demonstrations that will be held during the Hague Summit. It is vital to build a unified, international workers’ anti-war movement—to oppose militarization, reject NATO and overthrow the capitalist war agendas. A truly independent working-class camp must stand apart from all imperialist blocs. The only way to defend the rights of the people is through a break with the NATO, from an anti-capitalist and internationalist perspective. Down with the imperialist European Union of war and exploitation. For the unity of the working class and the exploited of Europe, including Russia.
Fight for:
-Dissolution of NATO
-Closure of the NATO bases in each country
-Disengagement from all imperialist plans and alliances
-Against war economies: no vote for the imperialist military budgets. For workers’ rights—for better wages, pensions, job stability, public services
Unite the anti-war front with the fight for bread, peace, and freedom. War can be stopped—only by the working class, by revolutionary struggle, and by transforming imperialist war into class war.
