The AKP Government is Intensifying its Repression Against Opposition

The AKP government in Turkey has intensified its crackdown on the opposition. The repression against leftist and socialist parties, Kurds, journalists, and intellectuals continues to escalate day by day. The main opposition Kemalist CHP is also affected by this repression. Most recently, the Ministry of Interior announced that, as part of operations carried out in ten provinces early this morning, detention orders were issued for 60 people, and 52 individuals were taken into custody. Among those detained are politicians, journalists, and artists.

In Istanbul, during pre-dawn house raids, many members of the Labor Party (EMEP), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the Socialist Re-Establishment Party (SYKP), the Revolutionary Socialist Workers’ Party (DSİP), and the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) were detained. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that detention orders were issued for 60 individuals. According to the Ministry of Interior, a total of 52 people were taken into custody in operations carried out across ten provinces.

The detentions are linked to an ongoing investigation into the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), umbrella organisation led by Kurdish Dem Party. Many homes were raided in the early hours of the morning, and 52 people were detained. The detainees were handcuffed behind their backs while being taken away. Due to a confidentiality order, their lawyers are not being allowed to meet with them.
